Our Stimulus Check Arrived!
Finally after months of waiting, weeks of speculation, and days of checking our account, the 2008 Economic Stimulus check finally showed up in our account this morning. I know other PF bloggers out there have been waiting on theirs too, so if you haven’t got it yet hold tight.
We received a flat payment of $1200. Half of this will go to our vacation, the $300 that was taken from the EF to fix my car is going back, and we will work $300 into our budget to help us tackle some debt. The government of course wants us to go out and spend it, but we recently purchased an HDTV so I think we already have done our part. This money is nice to receive but is not necessary to our economic stability by no means. I’m glad we didn’t spend this money on something before we received it, because it may have never came.

Hey jim! What do you mean “we didn’t spend this money on something before we received it”.You spent it on hdtv remember?
We didn’t spend this money, as in the stimulus check, on the HDTV. I made it very clear that we did not spend the money before we received it. Remember it may have never come, which is why I don’t count chickens. We bought the HDTV without needing to have it at all. I hope this is crystal clear.
oops I didnt mean to make you mad, I hope it is crytal clear too..
Believe me, I have no guilt whatsoever for using my stimulus check for saving and debt. I’ve done more than my fair share of trying to keep the economy going over the last several years — that’s why my credit card debt is where it’s at. Now it’s about *my* bottom line, not the government’s.
Jim - you are kidding yourself…smoke and mirrors. YOU SPENT IT.
I’m not kidding myself. You can say whatever you would like regarding this money, it doesn’t matter to me. I still have the money though and I still bought my TV without it. Here’s some simple math. If I have $1500 and spent $1500, then received $1200 from our friendly government, I still have $1200 left! Do I go around to blogs and accuse people who are saving their stimulus check that they actually spent it? No. Eventually the money will get spent though, that’s the only purpose money has in the end.
My check is due this week. I’ll take $100 to spend on some new clothes, $20 for getting my piles of laundry done at the expensive laundromat that does have the really great washer and dryers and the remaining $480 goes right into the emergency fund.
Like you I did my part in January when I also bought a new TV with cash on hand.
